Save Money on Personal Care Products

Personal care products are costly, especially if you purchase brand name products or have a large family that requires you to replenish products often.

There are many creative ways to save money on your products; using coupons, buying different brands, and buying products in bulk from retailers or on the internet.

Living Frugal Tips to Save Money on Personal Products

Buy generic or store brand

In most all cases, store brand or generic are the same quality as name brands but are cheaper. Buying generic helps when you're focusing on your frugal and debt free living.

Sign up for samples

Many stores will provide free samples when requested to promote future sales of their product. If you stay in a hotel, take home the samples of shampoo, soap and other items that are provided for you during your stay.

Use less of your products

In most cases, using less is just as efficient as the amount you are using. When using shampoo, try squeezing a smaller amount out of the bottle and lather up your hair. Most times, you won't see a difference in using the smaller amount.

The same is true with toothpaste, liquid soap, laundry detergent, dish detergent and toilet paper.

Make your own products

You can make your own toothpaste by missing baking soda and water.
To make your own shampoo, use a small amount of olive oil, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and an egg to make shampoo. An alternative to buying dandruff shampoo is to use malt or apple cider vinegar as a rinse after shampooing. You can also use baking soda as a cheap alternative to toothpaste or shampoo.

Buy personal care products in bulk

Shop at Costo, BJs or Sams Club to buy the items in bulk. A couple of things to keep in mind though:
Figure the price per unit when you are buying in bulk and make sure it is a lower cost that if you bought a single unit.
If a personal care product you use is on sale, stock up on these items for future use.

Use Coupons

Save money by using coupons on personal care products. You can obtain coupons online, from your local newspaper and sometimes by visiting the manufacturers website. Call the manufacturer using the number on the product and ask if they will mail you coupons.

Shop for personal care products on the internet

Some websites are cheaper than retail stores for personal care products.
Enter the name of the personal care product you are searching for into any search engine to view a price list and the list of online stores that sell the product.

Don't Wear At Home

To save money on makeup or hair care products, refrain from wearing these products if you plan to work in the yard all day or spend the day at home alone. You're saving the product for when you go out.

Negotiate with the Family

OK, so the family has different opinions on their preference of personal care products? Try negotiating and choose a brand that everyone is willing to share.

Be Flexible

If you want to get the best deal and save the most money, you need to be flexible about what products you purchase. Use what you can get the cheapest or maybe even free - like those samples at hotels. There are ways to find cheap beauty products, you just need to be on the lookout.
